The Kuwait Diagnostic Radiology Center in Deir al-Balah in the middle of the Gaza Strip went out of service after running out of fuel needed to operate its generators, which led to the shutdown of the only CT scanner in the area and disrupted other medical imaging services.
The center’s director, Abdul Rahman Al-Nakhla, said, “The fuel shortage caused the CT scanner to stop and took the entire center’s services out of operation.” In the past few days, many hospitals and medical centers in the Gaza Strip have announced reductions in their services due to an operational crisis caused by a lack of fuel and maintenance supplies due to the Israeli blockade.
This comes as a consequence of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip since October 8, 2023, along with a strict blockade and widespread targeting of infrastructure and the healthcare system in the area.
Al-Nakhla explained that the device’s shutdown directly affects emergency cases and the injured, pointing out that it is impossible to carry out the necessary imaging for patients who need urgent diagnosis or medical follow-up.
Al-Nakhla pointed out that other imaging services at the center have stopped, including X-rays, mammograms, dental panoramic images, and ultrasounds, due to running out of fuel and the halt in its supply from donor agencies.
