UN Rapporteur: Israel cut off electricity to Gaza for “genocide”

The UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the Palestinian territories, Francesca Albaniz, said on Sunday that Israel’s cutting of electricity supplies to the Gaza Strip means that there is no clean water, and therefore “a genocide warning.”

This came in a statement published by Albaniz, on its account on the X platform. Albaniz added, “The failure to impose sanctions and arms embargoes on Israel means supporting it in committing, in Gaza, one of the most genocide that can be prevented in our history.”

Earlier on Sunday, the Israeli occupation authorities announced that they had decided to stop supplying the Gaza Strip with electricity “immediately”, although the electricity supply to the Gaza Strip had actually been suspended since the beginning of the war in October 2023.
