Dr. Khalil Al-Daqran, spokesman for the Ministry of Health in Gaza, described the health situation in the Gaza Strip as extremely tragic, noting that the ongoing Israeli blockade, the closure of crossings, and the prevention of the entry of medical supplies and fuel have caused a near-total collapse of the health system.
According to official statistics, Al-Daqran told Al Jazeera Net that since the beginning of the war, hospitals in the Strip have received more than 51,000 martyrs and more than 115,000 wounded.
This crisis, which has been ongoing for more than a year and a half, has been exacerbated by the Israeli war machine’s targeting of the health infrastructure. Many hospitals have been destroyed, and 27 others have been rendered inoperable. The most recent was the Turkish Friendship Hospital, the only hospital that provided services to oncology and cancer patients.
As a result of this systematic targeting, Al-Daqran explained that the remaining hospitals are only partially functioning under extremely difficult conditions, with most operating rooms, intensive care units, and kidney wards completely depleted.
