UNRWA in Gaza warns of a severe hunger crisis threatening two million Palestinians

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has warned that every day that passes without food in the Gaza Strip pushes the Strip toward a severe hunger crisis, with dire consequences for the more than two million people suffering from the blockade and hunger, in light of the resumption of the war of extermination since March 18.

The occupation authorities have been preventing the entry of humanitarian aid and commercial supplies into the Strip since the end of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement in early March. This has led to a significant decrease in basic supplies, some of which will only last a few days unless the entry of trucks into Gaza is urgently resumed, Hamdan confirmed.

Enas Hamdan, director of the UNRWA media and communications office in Gaza, said that the aid ban on Gaza represents collective punishment for the population, who have suffered greatly during more than 16 months of devastating war.

Hamdan explained in statements to Al Jazeera Net that medical supplies and food supplies are running out, deepening the humanitarian crisis, both in terms of food security and the already deteriorating health situation.
