The Palestinian Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced on Tuesday that 13 citizens, including three children, had died from starvation and malnutrition within 24 hours. This is the highest number recorded in a single day since the beginning of the Israeli war of genocide and starvation.
This brings the total number of martyrs from starvation to 361, including 130 children. The Ministry of Health warned of the accelerating repercussions of the starvation catastrophe, pointing to a severe shortage of food and medical supplies that is hindering the response to the worsening crisis.
185 Palestinians died from starvation in August alone, as the Israeli blockade tightened and aid access was restricted.
According to the Ministry, 70 people, including 12 children, have died since the United Nations officially declared a famine in the Gaza Strip on August 22, warning that it could spread to Deir al-Balah and Khan Yunis within a few weeks.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health stated that 43,000 children under the age of five suffer from malnutrition, in addition to more than 55,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women suffering from the same problem. It also indicated that 67% of pregnant women suffer from anemia.
Director General Dr. Munir al-Barsh said in an interview with Al Jazeera that Gaza is being drained by a slow death, “and famine is besieging the entire population.”
He added, “Today we have recorded the highest death rate due to hunger, and people are dying in the streets,” stressing that Gaza is experiencing the worst humanitarian conditions since the beginning of the war nearly two years ago.
