Gaza Civil Defense postpones demolition of dilapidated houses

The General Directorate of Civil Defense in the Gaza Strip announced on Tuesday the postponement of joint operations with the Ministry of Public Works related to the demolition of dilapidated houses.

In a brief statement received by Quds Press, the Civil Defense Directorate said the postponement was due to the need to ensure suitable conditions that guarantee the safety of personnel and residents in the Strip.

This announcement comes amidst the massive destruction caused by the genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, which resulted in widespread damage to infrastructure and residential areas, leading to the collapse or damage of tens of thousands of homes.

According to official estimates and UN reports, more than 60 percent of homes in the Gaza Strip have been completely or partially destroyed. Thousands of homes were completely demolished, while tens of thousands more sustained severe damage, rendering them uninhabitable or at risk of collapse at any moment, especially with the continued storms and heavy rains.

The war also led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people in the Gaza Strip, forcing them to live in tents and temporary shelters, due to the lack of building materials and the ban on the entry of heavy equipment and machinery needed to remove rubble or reinforce damaged buildings.
