Two US officials told the Associated Press and CBS News that the US military has lost two additional MQ-9 Reaper drones during the war on Iran, bringing the total number of American drones downed to 11 so far.
Follow-ups- Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:
MQ-9 Reaper drones are unmanned aerial vehicles typically used for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions or for carrying out precision strikes. However, these drones were primarily designed for counter-terrorism environments with limited air defenses, not to confront countries possessing modern and advanced missile systems like Iran.
These drones are characterized by a top speed of approximately 300 miles per hour, which is relatively slow compared to fighter jets that range between 1200 and 1900 miles per hour, making them easy targets for Iranian air defense systems.
These escalating American losses come within the framework of Operation True Promise 4, which Iran is launching in response to the aggression in which the leader of the Islamic Revolution, Sayyed Ali Khamenei, was martyred, as Iranian air defenses continue to successfully target hostile drones.
