Iranian Official: Any project concerning the Strait of Hormuz without reference to “aggression” is doomed to fail

The deputy of Iran’s foreign minister for legal and international affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, stated on Friday that any project or text concerning the Strait of Hormuz that doesn’t include a reference to what he described as “military aggression,” blockade, and the threat of using force against Iran will be “biased and doomed to failure.”

Follow-ups – Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

Gharibabadi explained in a post that the American moves and those of some regional allies to propose a draft resolution on the Strait of Hormuz within the Security Council represent an attempt to change the course of the issue by transforming the repercussions of military escalation and blockade into a file against Iran, despite it being “the country that was subjected to threat, pressure, and attack.”

He added that the principle of “freedom of navigation” is one of the internationally recognized legal principles, but it cannot be dealt with selectively, politically, or in isolation from the UN Charter.

The Iranian official indicated that any initiative regarding maritime security in the region should take into account what he described as the use of force, the naval blockade, and ongoing threats, in addition to the “direct role of the US and Israel in creating the crisis,” as he put it.

Gharibabadi affirmed that ignoring what Tehran considers its “legitimate rights” to defend its security and vital interests will make any international move regarding the strait lacking balance and credibility.
