The Prisoners’ Media Office revealed on Tuesday that a number of Palestinian prisoners have been subjected to food deprivation for a week or more during military interrogations. The office described this practice as a form of pressure used to force confessions before transferring them to Nafha Prison.
The office stated that this constitutes cruel and inhuman treatment, which is prohibited under international law, and called for an international investigation and accountability for those responsible for these violations.
In a related context, the office noted that Nafha Prison is experiencing harsh detention conditions, accompanied by frequent repression and restrictions on the practice of religious rites, in addition to the imposition of collective punishments targeting all prisoners, including systematic starvation.
The office also pointed to the spread of scabies and allergies among prisoners, amidst ongoing medical neglect and deteriorating hygiene conditions within the prison, which has exacerbated their health problems.
It added that the prison administration imposes restrictions on prisoners’ access to the exercise yard, while providing them with poor-quality food and forcing them to share razors, increasing the risk of disease transmission.
