the World Health Organization said that bringing humanitarian aid into Gaza through Israel is experiencing “one delay after another,” denouncing a “chronic shortage” of medical supplies.
WHO representative in Palestine, Rainhilde van der Veldt, said on Saturday, October 3, that the health situation in Gaza “remains extremely catastrophic,” with none of its hospitals operating at full capacity.
Speaking to journalists in Geneva, in remarks made from Jerusalem, she said, “Not enough humanitarian aid is entering Gaza, and certainly not enough to expand and effectively restore health services.” She pointed out that the Israeli approval system for incoming medical supplies and other humanitarian aid is a major obstacle.
She said, “It’s a cumbersome process that takes a long time without guaranteed results.”
