The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip warned of the repercussions of what it described as repeated Israeli fabrications against hospitals and health facilities. It asserted that claims of the presence of armed men or the storage of weapons within medical facilities are baseless and are being used to justify the continued targeting of what remains of the health system in the Strip.
In an urgent press statement, the Ministry said that the health system is entering its third consecutive year under what it termed a systematic medical annihilation. It noted that the recycling of Israeli allegations regarding hospitals comes at a time when most health facilities have been destroyed and rendered inoperable, and health infrastructure built over decades has been obliterated.
The Ministry emphasized that the repetition of these allegations at this time represents, in its view, an attempt to create media cover and justifications for the continued targeting of hospitals and medical centers that are still operating under extremely harsh conditions.
The Ministry stressed that those currently inside the functioning hospitals and medical centers are wounded and sick people struggling for their lives, along with medical and humanitarian personnel who continue to provide healthcare amidst a severe shortage of medicines and medical supplies.
