Sana’a forces target it again… The importance of the “Rabigh” oil refinery

The operations that the Sana’a forces announced today, Saturday, that they carried out in the Saudi depth hit oil and vital facilities in the Kingdom, among them the “Rabigh” oil refinery affiliated with the Aramco company. So what does this facility represent?

Exclusive — Al-Khabar Al-Yemeni:

The Rabigh refinery, linked to the Rabigh Refining and Petrochemicals Complex, is considered one of the most prominent industrial and oil facilities on the western coast of Saudi Arabia, thanks to its capacity to refine oil and produce petroleum derivatives and raw materials for the petrochemical industries.

The facility is located in the city of Rabigh, north of Jeddah, on the Red Sea coast, and its refining capacity reaches about 400,000 barrels per day, while it produces annually more than 18.4 million tons of petroleum products, and about 2.4 million tons of ethylene and propylene derivatives, used in multiple industries, among them plastics, detergents, paints, fibers, and packaging materials.

The complex is managed by the Rabigh Refining and Petrochemical Company “Petro Rabigh,” which was founded as a joint project between Saudi Aramco and the Japanese Sumitomo Chemical Company, and the cost of establishing and developing the facility reached about 10 billion dollars, according to the data received, according to a report by the Al-Khanaqiq website.

The refinery acquires its importance from the size of its production and its connection to the oil, petrochemical, and manufacturing industries supply chains, in addition to its location on the Red Sea coast.
