WFP condemns Israeli attack on convoy in Gaza

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) said on Monday that Israeli forces opened fire on a convoy belonging to it in Gaza yesterday in what it described as “horrific”.

He added – in a statement – that the convoy – consisting of 3 vehicles – was carrying 8 employees from the center of the Gaza Strip to Gaza City, and received 16 bullets near the Wadi Gaza checkpoint, causing it to malfunction, but no injuries.

The WFP said the convoy was clearly marked about what it was, and had received prior security clearances from Israeli authorities.

“This incident is unacceptable and represents the latest example of the difficult and dangerous conditions in which WFP and other agencies are currently operating,” WFP said, stressing the need to improve security to ensure the continuation of relief operations.
