A Saudi plan redivides its areas in Yemen into three mini-states

Saudi Arabia began on Tuesday redividing the map of areas under its control in Yemen, after years of failure to occupy the entire country.

Saudi Arabia handed over the southern areas of Yemen, extending from Abyan to Lahj and Al-Dhale’ passing through Aden, to the Vice President of the Transitional Council loyal to it, Abu Zara’a Al-Muharrami. It assigned the task of managing files for the western regions to Tareq Saleh, the former leader of the Emirati factions on the western coast.

These shares coincided with its beginning to deploy its forces in the oil regions from Shabwa to Marib passing through Hadramawt, with the latter’s official declaration of secession and its annexation to the guardianship office in Riyadh.

For its part, government sources in Aden confirmed the beginning of the implementation of the new Saudi plan, indicating that it also includes changes at the level of the Presidential Council and the reduction of its members.

According to the previous Saudi plan emanating from the so-called National Dialogue Conference in Sana’a in 2013, those areas were supposed to be divided into several regions. However, Saudi Arabia’s decision to implement the new plan indicates that it has reached the conviction that further incursion into Yemen is impossible.

It is noteworthy that Saudi Arabia had preceded the new plan by appointing military governors at the level of each of the aforementioned regions.
