The UAE revealed, on Saturday, that the Muscat negotiations between Sana’a and Riyadh had officially stopped, in a move that could constitute a setback for months of moves to extend the armistice.
Al-Emarat Al-Youm newspaper quoted unnamed sources as saying that the coalition presented new conditions, including linking salaries to opening roads, expanding flights and opening the port of Hodeidah, which Sana’a rejected as a new attempt to link humanitarian files with military ones.
Sana’a stresses the need to separate the humanitarian files as entitlements for any progress in the armistice course.
The newspaper also indicated that there are differences over the file of guarantees, in reference to Sana’a’s rejection of Saudi demands for a buffer zone on the border.
The leader of the “Anssarallah” movement, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, threatened during a speech last Friday to resume military operations, accusing the coalition of prolonging the negotiations and evading the implementation of humanitarian entitlements, in an affirmation of the complications that stand in the way of negotiations.
