The municipality of Gaza City, the largest municipality in the Gaza Strip before the war, announced that water only reaches a total area of 40% of the city, due to the destruction of infrastructure networks, and that the matter threatens the spread of diseases and epidemics.
Engineer Assem al-Nabih, spokesman for the municipality, said in a press statement that the displaced because of this matter are struggling to obtain water.
In addition to the limited access of water to the city’s areas and neighborhoods, the quantities that reach citizens are very limited and do not meet all daily needs.
“More than 75% of the water wells in the city have been totally or partially damaged,” he said, noting that more than 100,000 linear meters of water networks have been damaged, making it impossible to deliver water to all areas.
He stressed that the lack of water in sufficient quantities leads to the spread of epidemics and diseases, especially skin diseases.
The Gaza Municipality has launched an urgent appeal to provide the necessary materials for the maintenance of water networks in the city, which have been severely affected by the Israeli aggression that has been going on for more than a year.
