Khalil Al-Daqran, spokesman for the Palestinian Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, confirmed that the health sector in the Strip is experiencing a “catastrophic and unsustainable situation.”
He called for the immediate evacuation of patients and the wounded for treatment abroad, the immediate opening of crossings to allow the entry of urgent medical supplies, and the restoration of destroyed hospitals.
Al-Daqran stated that the occupation has prevented patients from leaving for treatment abroad since the beginning of the year, and that approximately 950 patients have been martyred while waiting for exit permits.
He called for urgent action to evacuate patients, especially those suffering from chronic diseases such as cancer. He pointed out that the aid received so far is not worth a drop in the ocean compared to the urgent health needs in Gaza, stressing that the health sector is facing a complete collapse as a result of the blockade and repeated bombings that have put most government hospitals out of service.
He noted that hospitals in Gaza are completely overcrowded and suffer from a severe shortage of medicines, supplies, and medical equipment.
