The Prisoners’ Media Office revealed a significant escalation in the Israeli Prison Service’s application of the policy of rotating solitary confinement against Palestinian female prisoners in Damon Prison. The office described this practice as punitive, arbitrary, and lacking any legal justification or official basis.
In a report, the office explained that the prison administration deliberately isolates three to four female prisoners on a rotating basis almost weekly, by removing one prisoner from the isolation cells and placing another in her place. This is done to maintain psychological pressure and create a state of constant anxiety and unrest within the section.
The report indicated that the Prison Service does not inform the prisoners’ families of the isolation orders, depriving them of information about their daughters’ legal or detention status. They receive no information except through testimonies from released prisoners or through lawyer visits.
The report emphasized that the continuation of these practices, in the complete absence of international oversight and accountability, constitutes a flagrant violation of international conventions and agreements. This treatment is often classified as a form of torture or cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment.
