The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that the organization and its partners have vaccinated more than 10,000 children in Gaza to protect them from diseases.
In a blog post on Wednesday, Ghebreyesus noted that the vaccination campaign, which began on November 9 and continues until November 22, has reached more than 10,000 children under the age of three in Gaza.
He added that the campaign aims to reach more than 40,000 children.
He pointed out that the campaign is being implemented in cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip.
He explained that the vaccination campaign aims to protect children from diseases including measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), hepatitis B, tuberculosis, polio, and pneumonia.
He noted that the second and third phases of the campaign are planned for next December and January 2026.
He stated that World Health Organization monitoring teams are on the ground to ensure the quality and comprehensiveness of the vaccination campaign, and expressed his satisfaction with the continued ceasefire.
