The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Palestinian Territories (OHCHR) stated on Wednesday that Israel’s targeting of police officers in the Gaza Strip violates the principle of distinction and constitutes a war crime, adding that such attacks are also crimes against civilians.
In a post on the X platform, the OHCHR confirmed that “Israeli attacks are increasingly targeting police officers in Gaza.”
It explained that these attacks occur in densely populated areas and also affect civilians, noting that “an Israeli airstrike on a police station last April also resulted in the deaths of two children, aged three and nine.”
The OHCHR stated that “the UN Human Rights Office has documented six Israeli attacks since the beginning of 2026 until the end of April, resulting in the deaths of 26 police officers in the Gaza Strip.”
Last Sunday, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) condemned the continued targeting of the police force in the Gaza Strip by the criminal Israeli enemy, the latest of which was the cowardly assassination of the head of the Criminal Investigation Department in Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip, on Sunday.
