Sana’a Hopes to Resolve Fate of 1,200 Prisoners in Geneva

Sana’a delegation to negotiations for the exchange of prisoners expressed, on Thursday, optimism about the new round of negotiations.

The head of pro-Sana’a Prisoners’ Committee, Abdul Qadir Al-Murtada, expressed in a post on his official page on social media, his hope that the new round will lead to resolving the prisoners’ file.

Al-Murtada was speaking before leaving, at the head of a delegation, from Sana’a airport on his way to the Swiss capital, Geneva, where he expected a new round of prisoner negotiations between the Yemeni parties to start.

Upon his departure from Sana’a International Airport, the head of the National Committee for Prisoners’ Affairs expressed in a press statement the hope that the new round of negotiations in Geneva, under UN auspices, would be decisive for the humanitarian file.

The new round of prisoner negotiations, sponsored by the United Nations, is a continuation of previous rounds that failed to complete any prisoner exchange process. It is expected that this round will discuss the file of more than 1,200 prisoners, including high-ranking leaders, according to media reports.

This round of negotiations coincides with an international and regional movement to push for a comprehensive political settlement in a country that is entering its ninth year of war and siege this month.
